NYPD the latest, but certainly not the first, to feel wrath when Twitter campaign backfires

A feel-good Twitter request by the New York Police Department asking for pictures of people posing with officers quickly turned ugly when hundreds instead posted shots of baton-wielding cops battling protesters and taking down suspects. Other recent examples of Twitter gaffes: — McDONALD'S: The fast-food chain in 2012 launched the Twitter hashtag #McDStories to draw attention to its food suppliers. Many used it instead to bash the quality of McDonald's food. Among the tweets: "I walked into a McDonald's and could smell the Type II diabetes."

CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — Apple plans to buy back an additional $30 billion of its stock, raise its quarterly dividend by 8 percent and split its stock for the first time in nine years. Airport security vulnerabilities that enabled teen to hitch flight to Hawaii not uncommon

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — For all the tens of billions of dollars the nation has spent on screening passengers and their bags, few airports made a comparable investment to secure the airplanes. "No system is foolproof," San Jose International Airport aviation director Kim Aguirre said Wednesday. "Certainly as we learn more, if we see any gaping holes, we will work to fill them."

Zynga founder Mark Pincus is stepping down as chief product officer; will remain chairman

NEW YORK (AP) — Online game maker Zynga says company founder Mark Pincus is stepping down as chief product officer, less than a year after he was replaced as the company's CEO. Zynga says Pincus will remain chairman of the company he founded in 2007. Zynga went public in 2011 on the strength of games like "Farmville" and "Mafia Wars," which had enthusiastic Facebook followings. But then rival digital game makers invaded Facebook and more people migrated to other pastimes on smartphones. Zynga has been cutting jobs and posting losses.
