ATLANTA (AP) — Companies across the globe are on high alert to tighten up network security to avoid being the next company brought to its knees by hackers like those that executed the dramatic cyberattack against Sony Pictures Entertainment. "The Sony breach is a real wake-up call even after the year of mega-breaches we've seen," says Lee Weiner, Boston security firm Rapid7's senior vice president of products and engineering. "This is a completely different type of data stolen with the aim to harm the company."

Plea hearing set for ex-manager at halal food supplier accused of fraud in beef exports

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A former manager at an Iowa-based halal food supplier is expected to plead guilty as part of a federal criminal investigation into the company's exporting and marketing practices, according to court documents filed Thursday. The founder of the Cedar Rapids-based company, 73-year-old William B. Aossey Jr., and his two sons who now direct it have pleaded not guilty to similar charges, as did the company and its halal certification organization, Islamic Services of America.

Oakland is second California city, after LA, to ban tool used by circus elephant handlers

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The circus will stop coming to Oakland in a few years after a tool used by elephant handlers was banned in the city. Oakland is now the second California city, after Los Angeles, to ban the use of a bullhooks. The circus will stop performing in Los Angeles in summer 2016 following the approval of its ban in the spring. The Oakland ban takes effect in 2017.
