Strict NYC storm regulations enacted by Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio could be the new normal

NEW YORK (AP) — They appeared to be scenes from a frozen apocalypse. Streets across New York City were empty. The subway system was shuttered, the city's pulse rendered still. Hardy souls who braved the snow were threatened with fines or arrest. And it could be the new normal. Though the snowstorm largely missed New York City, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio staunchly defended their unprecedented, stringent restrictions.

China accuses Alibaba of allowing sales of fake goods in report withheld until after IPO

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese regulators accused e-commerce giant Alibaba on Wednesday of permitting sales of fake goods and hurting consumers in a report that was withheld until now to avoid disrupting the company's U.S. stock market debut. The report was the result of a meeting in July between regulators and Alibaba Group Ltd. management. It said the release was postponed to avoid affecting progress toward Alibaba's stock market debut. The company went public in September after raising a record $25 billion in an initial public stock offering.

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese regulators have accused e-commerce giant Alibaba of allowing sales of fake and shoddy goods and other mismanagement in a report that was withheld until now to avoid disrupting its U.S. stock market debut. The report was the result of a meeting in July but said it was withheld to avoid affecting progress toward Alibaba's stock market listing in New York. The company went public in September after raising a record $25 billion in an initial public stock offering.

Leaving trails of purportedly beneficial slime wherever they go, snails emerge on beauty scene

CHIANG MAI, Thailand (AP) — The last time I encountered escargots they were served up by a French waiter, sizzling in garlic and herb butter. Now, one is slithering up the bridge of my nose while five others are being stuck onto other parts of my face by a Thai beautician, all secreting snail slime to hopefully smooth out some wrinkles and otherwise give me a younger-than-my-age look.
