CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The CEO of Volvo Cars of North America said Thursday that infrastructure, a business-friendly climate and a capable workforce were reasons Volvo selected South Carolina over 60 sites nationwide for its first North American assembly plant. About 100 people were on hand as Kerssemakers, Gov. Nikki Haley and other officials signed an incentive agreement bringing the plant to the state.

(AP) — Interior Secretary Sally Jewell revealed plans Thursday to preserve habitat in 10 Western states for an imperiled ground-dwelling bird, the federal government's biggest land-planning effort to date for conservation of a single species. Some will say the plans don't go far enough to protect the bird, Jewell said.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks fell slightly Thursday, following a sell-off in the Chinese market and continued worries about the approaching debt payment deadline for cash-starved Greece. The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 36.87 points, or 0.2 percent, to 18,126.12. The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged down 2.69 points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,120.79 and the Nasdaq composite lost 8.62 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,097.98.

Michael King, innovative syndicator of 'Oprah,' 'Dr. Phil' and 'Wheel of Fortune,' dies at 67

NEW YORK (AP) — Michael King, an innovative TV syndicator who helped make stars of Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Phil McGraw and Rachael Ray, has died. A family member confirms King died Wednesday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia. He was 67. With his brother Roger, Michael King inherited King World Productions in 1972 from their father, Charles King, who had founded the company eight years earlier to syndicate classic "Our Gang" theatrical comedy shorts.
