HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The state Public Utility Commission has given ride-sharing service Uber a two-year experimental license to operate anywhere in the state except Philadelphia, where it has been operating despite a local ban. Uber also must clarify details of its own corporate insurance policy with drivers and make them submit to background checks. Any vehicles used must also pass state safety inspections.

US economy, fueled by consumers, is showing steady gains even as rest of world struggles

WASHINGTON (AP) — There's a good reason the U.S. economy is impressing the world right now despite a slowdown in the final three months of 2014: In a word, steadiness. All that fed a surge of consumer spending last quarter, offsetting weaker business spending caused in part by a pullback by oil drillers and a frail global economy.

CHICAGO (AP) — Grain futures were lower Friday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for Mar delivery fell 5 cents to $5.0275 a bushel; Mar corn lost 1.50 cents to 3.70 a bushel; Mar oats were 6.50 cents lower at $2.76 a bushel; while Mar soybeans declined 8.25 cents to $9.60 a bushel. Beef was higher and pork was lower on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Oil jumps 7 percent on signs US oil companies curtail production following big rout in price

NEW YORK (AP) — The price of oil is up 7 percent on indications that production in the U.S. has slowed following the big drop in prices since last June. U.S. oil surged $3.18 to $47.71 a barrel. Baker Hughes reported that the number of rigs drilling for oil in the U.S fell by 94 in the past week to 1,223. That's down 199 from this time last year.
