Colorado labor department says 3,300 non-farm jobs added from February to March

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado labor department says the state had 3,300 more non-farm jobs in March than in the previous month, for a total of more than 2.4 million. Jobs in trade, transportation and utilities, construction and other services accounted for most of the increase. The largest declines were in professional and business services.

Mississippi unemployment rate rises to 7.6 percent in March as payrolls fall for fourth month

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi's unemployment rate rose to 7.6 percent in March as more people entered the labor force than could find jobs. A separate survey shows state employer payrolls fell for the fourth straight month. Both sets of figures — adjusted to cancel out seasonal changes — were released Friday by the U.S. Labor Department.

Nebraska's preliminary March unemployment rate 3.7 percent; still among nation's lowest

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska's preliminary unemployment rate inched up a tenth of a point to hit 3.7 percent in March, but the state's jobless rate remains one of the lowest in the nation, according to a state report released Friday. There were 1,027,253 people in the state labor force last month, the report said, compared with 1,025,801 in February. The number of unemployed rose to 38,459 from 36,933 in in February. The number of people with Nebraska jobs in March dropped slightly, to 988,794 from 988,868 in February. In March 2013 the number of employed was 988,507, the state report said.

South Carolina unemployment falls to 5.5 percent in March, marks 10th straight monthly decline

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina's unemployment rate continued a nearly yearlong decline last month, falling for the 10th month in a row, state officials said Friday. State officials said that South Carolina employment reached a historic high in March, with the number of employed people in South Carolina last month just over 2 million, according to the Workforce Department. In a statement, Gov. Nikki Haley hailed the numbers as good news, pointing out that the state's jobless rate was 10.5 percent just over three years ago.
