Rogers Communications misses 1Q earnings expectations, tops revenue forecasts

Toronto (AP) _ Rogers Communications Inc. (T.RCI) on Monday reported first-quarter net income of $201.7 million (255 million CAD). The company said it had net income of 38 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 42 cents per share. The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 51 cents per share.

Universal's high-octane movie took in $29.2 million, bringing its domestic total to a stunning $294.5 million. With $1.15 billion in worldwide receipts, "Furious 7" has become the seventh highest-grossing film of all time, behind "Iron Man 3."

South Carolina newspaper wins Pulitzer for reporting on the deadly toll of domestic violence

NEW YORK (AP) — The Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina, won the Pulitzer Prize for public service Monday for an examination of the deadly toll of domestic violence, while The New York Times collected three awards and the Los Angeles Times two. The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal both won investigative reporting prizes, the Times for an examination of lobbyists' influence on state attorneys general, the Journal for detailing fraud and waste in the Medicare payment system.
