Oppenheimer paying $20M in US settlements on penny stock sales, money laundering controls

WASHINGTON (AP) — Oppenheimer & Co. is paying $20 million in civil settlements with U.S. regulators who accused the investment firm of improper sales of penny stocks and inadequate controls against money laundering. The SEC said Oppenheimer sold billions of shares of penny stocks in unregistered offerings on behalf of customers, ignoring red flags and aiding the customers' illegal activity. Oppenheimer admitted in its agreement with FinCEN that it failed to maintain an adequate program to prevent money laundering.

Wheat, corn, oats and soybeans lower on the CBOT; beef higher, pork lower on the CME.

CHICAGO (AP) — Grain futures were lower Tuesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for Mar delivery fell 1.25 cents to $5.19 a bushel; Mar corn lost 2.75 cents to 3.8125 a bushel; Mar oats were 1.5 cents lower at $2.8925 a bushel; while Mar soybeans declined 9.75 cents to $9.7375 a bushel. Beef gained and pork fell on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Gov't: 9.5 million already signed up for 2015 coverage under Obama's health law

WASHINGTON (AP) — Some 9.5 million people have already signed up for 2015 coverage under President Barack Obama's health care law, and the administration is on track to surpass its nationwide enrollment target set last year. The health insurance exchanges offer subsidized private coverage to people who don't have access on the job. The deadline for 2015 enrollment is Feb. 15, and officials are expecting the numbers to surge at the very end.

Snapchat to show content from big media brands through new 'Discover' feature

NEW YORK (AP) — Popular disappearing-message app Snapchat is introducing content from media companies such as Vice, CNN and People to its service as it works to broaden its audience.
