Ashley Madison CEO leaves company in wake of hacking, leak of member information

NEW YORK (AP) — The CEO of the company that runs adultery website Ashley Madison is stepping down in the wake of the massive breach of the company's computer systems and outing of millions of its members. "This change is in the best interest of the company and allows us to continue to provide support to our members and dedicated employees," Avid Life's statement reads. "We are steadfast in our commitment to our customer base."

Chile's Codelco first semester earnings tumble 33 percent on lower prices for copper

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Chile's state-run copper giant Codelco says its profit plunged more than 30 percent in the first half of 2015 from the previous year because of tumbling prices for the metal. Codelco's production rose by 5.5 percent in the first semester to 910,000 metric tons. The company has been hard hit by lower prices and demand for copper after an economic slowdown in China and labor strikes.

Survey: Plunging stock prices lower US consumer sentiment, though impact may be temporary

WASHINGTON (AP) — Plummeting stock prices have taken a toll on U.S. consumer confidence, though there are signs the setback may be temporary. The University of Michigan says its consumer sentiment index fell to 91.9 this month from 93.1 in July. The index is still up 11.4 percent from a year ago.

US stocks edge lower in early trading after sharp two-day surge as markets close out wild week

U.S. stocks drifted between small gains and losses in morning trading Friday, coming off two days of big upswings as the market closes out a wild week. Utilities stocks were among the biggest decliners in morning trading Thursday. U.S. oil prices moved sharply higher. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 30 points, or 0.2 percent, to 16,623 as of 11:17 a.m. Eastern time Friday.
