WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran urges the Treasury Department to immediately rewrite cumbersome regulations that have made it difficult to sell wheat and other agricultural commodities to Cuba. The Republican said Friday the agency can take that step even before Congress grapples with whether to lift the U.S. trade embargo.

GAIL, Texas (AP) — The Muleshoe Ranch's profits were chopped in half when the drought withered pastures, dried up stock tanks and forced the owner to move most of his cattle out of state. "The drought opened our eyes to we need to be more diverse," said Anderson, who ranches near Gail, about 70 miles south of Lubbock. "Our mind isn't closed. If there's something we can do we're going to go for it, if it makes economic sense."

GAIL, Texas (AP) — Ranchers across Texas have gotten creative with their land after drought conditions decimated cattle numbers in the nation's leading production state. 2011 was the state's driest year on record, causing ranchers to heavily cull their herds. The reduced numbers have contributed to record high beef prices.
