However, the 10-year-old shopping holiday has lost some of its luster as online sales on Thanksgiving and Black Friday have increased. But enough shoppers have been trained to look for "Cyber Monday" specific sales to ensure the holiday will still mean big bucks for retailers.

Mattress Firm says it will buy Sleepy's for $780M, boosting annual sales by about $1B

NEW YORK (AP) — Mattress Firm said Monday it will buy competitor Sleepy's for $780 million and says the deal will add about $1 billion to its annual sales. It says it is the largest retailer of specialty mattresses in the U.S., while Sleepy's is the second-largest. Mattress Firm said it expects to save $40 million in the three years after the deal closes.

Jurors end another day of deliberations without verdict in ex-coal CEO Blankenship's trial

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Jurors have deliberated another day without reaching a verdict in the ex-Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship's trial. The jury ended its sixth full day of deliberations without a decision Monday. They had not met since Tuesday because of Thanksgiving. Blankenship is charged with conspiring to break safety laws and defrauding mine regulators at West Virginia's Upper Big Branch Mine, and lying to financial regulators and investors about safety. The mine exploded in 2010, killing 29 men.

Report: California's top oil regulator quitting after 17 months on job

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California's top oil regulator is resigning after 17 months on the job, a newspaper reports. Steve Bohlen, the state's oil and gas chief, told the Sacramento Bee he is quitting to return to research (http://bit.ly/1OAueCc ). The newspaper did not give a reason. The state's oil and gas division did not immediately return calls for comment.
