Broadwind posts loss of $1.8 million in third quarter

CICERO, Ill. (AP) _ Broadwind Energy Inc. (BWEN) on Thursday reported a loss of $1.8 million in its third quarter. The Cicero, Illinois-based company said it had a loss of 12 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 18 cents per share. The equipment supplier to the wind energy industry posted revenue of $60.3 million in the period.

Young voters, who as a generation are more likely to support recreational marijuana, usually turn out during presidential years like 2012, but stay home during midterms, when the electorate skews older and more conservative.

Standard Motor Products posts 3Q profit of $9.6 million, result misses forecasts

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. (AP) _ Standard Motor Products Inc. (SMP) on Thursday reported profit of $9.6 million in its third quarter. The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 82 cents per share. The auto parts maker posted revenue of $257 million in the period.

Government sets 'gainful employment' rule for-profit colleges whose grads don't earn enough

WASHINGTON (AP) — For-profit colleges that don't produce graduates capable of paying off their student loans could soon face the wrath of the federal government. To meet these "gainful employment" standards, a program will have to show that the estimated annual loan payment of a typical graduate does not exceed 20 percent of his or her discretionary income or 8 percent of total earnings.
