Germany's Deutsche Bank paying $55M in SEC settlement over misstated reports during crisis

WASHINGTON (AP) — Germany's Deutsche Bank AG has agreed to pay $55 million to settle civil charges of filing incorrect reports during the financial crisis that downplayed risks of huge losses. The SEC said that in some quarterly reports in 2008, Deutsche Bank inflated the value of its transactions designed to hedge against losses on securities in the credit markets, which were turbulent at the time. That created a "gap risk" worth billions of dollars that wasn't properly taken into account in the bank's reports, the agency said.

Olive Garden says it has at least 1 more breadstick creation up its sleeve

NEW YORK (AP) — Olive Garden isn't finished dreaming up new ways to use its breadsticks. The "breadstick crostini" — or toasted bread — will be sliced and used as part of an appetizer, said Jose Duenas, Olive Garden's executive vice president of marketing. "The flavor profile of the breadstick is powerful," Duenas said in an interview.

HEALTHBEAT: Scientists scan healthy brains to learn how toxic protein duo may spur Alzheimer's

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sticky plaque gets the most attention, but now healthy seniors at risk of Alzheimer's are letting scientists peek into their brains to see if another culprit is lurking. Now researchers are adding tau brain scans to an ambitious study that's testing if an experimental drug might help healthy but at-risk people stave off Alzheimer's. Whether that medication works or not, it's the first drug study where scientists can track how both of Alzheimer's signature markers begin building up in older adults before memory ever slips.

Stocks decline broadly as traders return from Memorial Day; oil, energy stocks hit hard

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks fell broadly Tuesday as investors fretted about Greece's debt crisis and soft demand for durable goods last month. A surge in the dollar pushed down energy prices, and, in turn, oil and gas stocks. The sell-off was broad. Five stocks fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange. Only 20 stocks in the S&P 500 were higher.
