Several stocks were making big moves on corporate announcements Monday. Eli Lilly plunged 7 percent after saying it would discontinue the development of a drug. EMC Corp. rose 3 percent after Dell said it would buy the data storage company.

Southwest says customers should expect normal day after hundreds of flight delays Sunday

Southwest Airlines said early Monday that it had fixed technology problems that delayed hundreds of flights on Sunday, and it expects a normal day of operations. Southwest suffered intermittent technical issues on its website, mobile app and in its phone centers and airports check-in systems Sunday. It was using backup systems to check-in travelers lacking printed or mobile boarding passes.

Belgium-based maker of Budweiser raises bid for SABMiller to $108 billion

LONDON (AP) — Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev has increased its bid for SABMiller to 70.4 billion pounds ($108.2 billion) in its latest effort to win approval from directors who have rejected three previous offers. Shares of London-based SABMiller rose 1 percent to 37 pounds a share after reports of the improved bid.

Dell buying data storage company EMC in transaction valued at about $67 billion

NEW YORK (AP) — Dell is buying data storage company EMC in a deal valued at approximately $67 billion. Cloud computing company VMware Inc., a subsidiary of EMC, will stay an independent, publicly traded company. Since going private in 2013, Dell Inc. has been investing in research and development and growing its software and services business as those in the technology industry continue to struggle with soft PC sales.
