PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The owner of a farm where a teenager was killed on a Halloween-themed hayride last fall said he never would have allowed a vehicle with mechanical problems to haul people on the attraction. He said that he ultimately submitted to a lie detector test and testified before the grand jury to clear his name, and to prove that he didn't knowingly put anyone in harm's way.

Official: Puerto Rico lacks money and cannot make $58 million bond payment due Saturday

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico's government says it cannot make an upcoming $58 million bond payment and is warning that the general fund will run out of liquidity by November if no action is taken. The government contends that failure to make the payment will not constitute a default because it involves moral obligation bonds and there is no legal requirement to repay them. Economists reject that argument and say it will be the first default in the history of the U.S. territory.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, earned more than $139 million between 2007 and 2014, according to eight years of federal income tax returns released by her campaign on Friday. In a statement released by her campaign, Hillary Clinton said the couple has paid nearly $44 million in federal taxes on $139.1 million in income since 2006, and donated nearly $15 million to charity.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal tax returns released by Hillary Rodham Clinton show she and former President Bill Clinton paid an overall 31.6 percent tax rate on more than $139 million the couple earned between 2007 and 2014. The Clintons donated nearly 11 percent of their income to charity in 2014. This year, the Clintons boosted personal donations to their global family charity, the Clinton Foundation, to between $5 million and $10 million.
