WASHINGTON (AP) — Some low-cost generic drugs that have helped restrain health care costs for decades are seeing unexpected price spikes of up to 8,000 percent, prompting a backlash from patients, pharmacists and now Washington lawmakers. Experts said there are multiple, often unrelated, forces behind the price hikes, including drug ingredient shortages, industry consolidation and production slowdowns due to manufacturing problems. But the lawmakers convening Thursday's hearing said the federal government needs to play a bigger role in restraining prices.

Geospace Technologies reports fourth-quarter loss of $1.8 million

HOUSTON (AP) _ Geospace Technologies Corp. (GEOS) on Thursday reported a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $1.8 million. The Houston-based company said it had a loss of 14 cents per share. The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 17 cents per share.

Airbus triumphs over Boeing in Delta order for 50 planes

ATLANTA (AP) — Delta Air Lines Inc. said Thursday it would acquire 50 new planes from Europe's Airbus to replace older Boeing Co. jets. Delta said that it ordered 25 Airbus A350-900 jets to start arriving in 2017 and 25 Airbus A330-900neo jets for delivery beginning in 2019. The two-aisle planes will replace older Boeing 747 and 767 jets.
