COLONIE, N.Y. (AP) — Supporters and critics of proposals for an Albany area casino weighed in Monday at the first of three days of public hearings on casinos planned for upstate New York. Monday's hearing at an Albany area hotel focused on four bids for a Capital Region casino. Hearings on Tuesday in Poughkeepsie and Wednesday in Ithaca will focus on proposals in the Catskills and mid-Hudson Valley and the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region.

Japanese company to open its 1st North American facility in Kentucky next year

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A Japanese metalworking company said Monday it plans to spend $8.6 million and hire 30 people to open a plant, joining a growing number of Japanese businesses that have come to the state following Toyota's decision to put its largest North American plant in Kentucky. The company will work on pipes used in Toyotas to prevent fuel from corroding them.
