Pall Corp. tops 3Q earnings and revenue expectations

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (AP) _ Pall Corp. (PLL) on Thursday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $96.2 million. On a per-share basis, the Port Washington, New York-based company said it had profit of 89 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 92 cents per share. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 85 cents per share.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of Shopify climbed 51 percent in its first day of trading Thursday, a day after raking in about $131 million in its initial public offering, more than the company expected. The Canadian company works with merchants who want to offer their own online checkout services, providing a platform for small- and mid-size businesses that sell products online. Clients can use Shopify's software to handle sales made through mobile phones, the Web, physical stores and other means.
