NEW YORK (AP) — McDonald's says it's raising pay for workers at its company-owned U.S. restaurants, making it the latest employer to sweeten worker incentives in an improving economy. The announcement comes as several other major companies including, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., have announced wage hikes as the economy has picked up and made it more difficult to find reliable workers. Over the past 12 months, the unemployment rate has dropped to 5.5 percent from 6.7 percent.

CHICAGO (AP) — Grain futures were mostly higher Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Beef was mostly lower and pork was higher on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. June live cattle fell .10 cent to $1.5222 a pound; May feeder cattle lost .25 cent to $2.1665 a pound; while June lean hogs were .45 cent higher to $.7625 a pound.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — The crash of a plane near an airport that killed two people over the weekend occurred during a routine flight review to test a pilot's flying proficiency. "It was a flight review that pilots have to take every two years with an approved instructor to demonstrate competency in a number of skills," said Peter Knudson, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board.
