How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared on Tuesday

Grim economic news from Europe and airstrikes in Syria rattled global stock markets on Tuesday. Most of the damage was felt in Europe, which fell sharply after a closely watched gauge of business activity for the region fell to a nine-month low. The disappointing news about Europe's economy also weighed down Wall Street. The Dow Jones industrial average opened lower and finished the day with its second triple-digit loss in a row.

Tea Leoni's conflicted secretary of state has strong start for CBS

NEW YORK (AP) — It's still unclear whether television viewers will accept actress Tea Leoni as a fictional secretary of state. But they're at least willing to give the idea a try. All of CBS' Sunday premieres did well, helped by a late NFL telecast matching last year's Super Bowl teams, Seattle and Denver.

Solar energy panel manufacturer breaks ground at former steel site in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The head of a solar power company and New York's governor have broken ground for a new factory at the site of a former steel mill in Buffalo. The state is establishing the former Republic Steel site along the Buffalo River as a clean-energy hub. Lyndon Rive, chief executive of San Mateo, California-based SolarCity, says it can exponentially increase output capacity.

ACLU sues over Arizona bill targeting 'revenge porn,' calling it too broad, unconstitutional

PHOENIX (AP) — A new Arizona law making "revenge porn" illegal is so broad it criminalizes booksellers, artists, news photographers and even historians and is therefore unconstitutional, the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona said in a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday. "On its face it will affect a goodly amount of protected speech that has nothing to do with the prototypical revenge porn scenario," said Dan Pochoda, legal director for the state ACLU. "There's a reason why so many media folks, bookseller folks, have joined (the lawsuit,) because a number of things they do in a normal course would be criminalized by this law."
