ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Assembly voted 89-47 on Wednesday for legislation to establish publicly funded universal health coverage in a so-called single payer system. With no patient premiums, deductibles or co-payments for hospital and doctor visits, testing, drugs or other care, New York Health would pay providers through collectively negotiated rates. It would be funded through a progressive payroll tax paid 80 percent by employers and 20 percent by employees.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece's cash-strapped government insisted Wednesday it was "very close" to reaching a vital deal with bailout lenders, but the optimism in Athens was swiftly shot down by German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras paid a rare visit to the Finance Ministry to announce that a breakthrough was in sight.

UAW rival at Volkswagen plant represented by lawyer touting expertise in 'union avoidance'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The rival group to the United Auto Workers union at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee brands itself as local, independent and free of outside influence or political agenda. ACE has 381 members among both hourly and salaried workers at the Chattanooga factory, according to the filing. By contrast, the UAW said last month it had 816 members among the hourly workers alone. That's about 55 percent of the blue-collar workforce.

Wyoming officials: Proposed EPA water regulations extend federal reach over private property

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming officials say they're disappointed with water quality regulations the federal government released Wednesday that would extend federal authority over smaller waterways such as tributaries and wetlands. The rules face stiff opposition from Gov. Matt Mead and members of Wyoming's congressional delegation. They warn the rules would extend federal influence over private farms and ranches.
