AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A California billionaire's political operation is entering Maine's three-way race for governor and will target 90,000 potential voters who it believes can help defeat Republican Gov. Paul LePage, the group's chief strategist said on Wednesday. "A vote for anyone else, including Eliot Cutler, is in effect a vote against climate, against jobs, against moving the state of Maine forward," said Chief Strategist Chris Lehane.

USDA approves new modified corn and soybean seeds designed to resist popular weed killer

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Agriculture Department has approved the use of genetically modified corn and soybean seeds that are resistant to a popular weed killer. The agriculture industry has been anxiously awaiting the approvals, as many weeds have become resistant to glyphosate, an herbicide commonly used on corn and soybeans now. Herbicide-resistant seeds introduced in the 1990s allowed farmers to spray fields after their plants emerged, killing the weeds but leaving crops unharmed.
