Presidential spokesman Jay Carney said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano would travel to the state Wednesday to make sure state officials are getting the federal assistance they need.

2 hours, 9 minutes ago
The government will accept an Army private's guilty plea to a lesser version of one of the 22 counts he faces for sending more than 700,000 classified U.S. documents to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, a military prosecutor said during a pretrial hearing Tuesday. Army Maj. Ashden Fein told the military judge, Col. Denise Lind, that prosecutors had changed their minds about trying to convict Manning of violating the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in connection with the release of a State Department cable known as Reykjavik-13. WilkiLeaks posted the cable in early 2010 about a meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland, summarizing U.S. Embassy discussions with Icelandic officials about the country's financial troubles.

Toback, Baldwin eye Cannes movie-making underbelly
2 hours, 13 minutes ago
A phrase you will hear often at Cannes is: "Let me run the numbers." For director James Toback, any claims about the running of "the numbers" _ of treating moviemaking as an analytical science _ is blatant "pseudo research." "This is where you really need, desperately, a sense of your own value," Toback said in a recent interview. "A sense of your own value as a person and an artist."
