Black Press buys 2 Hawaii dailies and several Washington papers from Stephens Media

HONOLULU (AP) — The owner of Hawaii's largest newspaper bought two daily publications on Hawaii's Big Island and several newspapers in Washington state. Oahu Publications, a subsidiary of Black Press, also owns The Garden Island newspaper on Kauai. The purchase of The Daily World of Aberdeen, Washington, and three weeklies by another Black Press subsidiary closed Wednesday. The Hawaii sale closes Dec. 1.

NFL extends contract with satellite provider DirecTV to carry 'Sunday Ticket' package

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has extended its contract with satellite provider DirecTV to carry the "Sunday Ticket" package, which allows viewers to watch out-of-market games. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the figures were not made public. The previous deal was worth about $1 billion a year.

Judge: Stockton, California, must follow bankruptcy laws, pay creditors and pension fund

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that Stockton, California, must follow U.S. bankruptcy laws and pay its creditors as well as its pension fund. The ruling came Wednesday in a case filed against Stockton by a key creditor, Franklin Templeton Investments. The case is being closely watched because it could answer the significant question of who gets paid first by financially strapped cities around the nation — retirement funds or creditors.

Man with Ebola in Dallas flew part of trip on United; CDC says no risk to other passengers

The man hospitalized with Ebola shortly after arriving in the U.S. says he flew part of the way on United Airlines on Sept. 20. A Belgian official says the man flew from Liberia to Brussels on Brussels Airlines. Health officials say there is no risk of infection among other passengers because the man, Thomas Eric Duncan, had no symptoms when he flew.
