Obama: FAA took 'prudent action' by canceling US flights in and out of Israel

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says the Federal Aviation Administration took "prudent action" in temporarily banning U.S. flights in and out of Israel. The FAA issued the ban Tuesday and lifted the restrictions Wednesday night. Obama says that before lifting the ban, the FAA worked with Israel on a "checklist of concerns and mitigation measures" to ensure the safety of U.S. airlines.

Feds cap maximum fine this year for not buying health insurance at $2,448 per person

MIAMI (AP) — Federal officials have capped the amount of money scofflaws will be forced to pay if they don't buy insurance this year under the new health care law. The penalty for the first year starts at $95 per person and can rise to as much as 1 percent of annual income. The latest figure limits what the government can charge people using the personal income computation. The penalty is due when people file their 2014 taxes.

Tempur Sealy takes bigger second-quarter loss; shares slide as company tweaks guidance

NEW YORK (AP) — Tempur Sealy reported a larger second-quarter loss on Thursday, and the bedding maker's shares slumped after it adjusted its annual guidance. Tempur Sealy reported a loss of $2.2 million, or 4 cents per share, after losing $1.6 million, or 3 cents per share, a year ago. The Lexington, Kentucky, company said it turned a profit of 39 cents per share if one-time items are excluded, up from 36 cents per share one year earlier. Its revenue rose 8.2 percent, to $715 million from $660.6 million.
