Immigration bill heads to full Senate

A far-reaching bill to remake the nation's immigration system is headed to the full Senate, where tough battles are brewing on gay marriage, border security and other contentious issues, with the outcome impossible to predict. Many involved still vividly recall the last time the Senate took up a major immigration bill, in 2007, beginning with high hopes only to see their efforts collapse on the Senate floor amid a public backlash and interest group defections.

All 28 bodies recovered from Indonesian mine room

Rescuers on Wednesday recovered the last of 28 miners killed last week when an underground room of a giant Indonesian gold and copper mine collapsed, the operator of the U.S.-owned facility said. A statement from PT Freeport Indonesia said its 200-member Emergency Response Team worked round the clock in narrow tunnels and loose rock before finally recovering and identified the last victim early Wednesday.

Restaurant learns online reviews can make or break

It was the customer service disaster heard around the Internet. "I AM NOT STUPID ALL OF YOU ARE," read the posting on the Facebook wall of Amy's Baking Co. in suburban Phoenix. "YOU JUST DO NOT KNOW GOOD FOOD." It was, to put it kindly, not a best business practice. Add to that an appearance earlier this month on the Fox reality television show "Kitchen Nightmares," where celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay gave up on trying to save the restaurant after he was insulted, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Kerry praises $2.1 billion Raytheon deal in Oman

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met Wednesday with officials in Oman to discuss their plans to buy a $2.1 billion air defense system from American manufacturer Raytheon. Kerry met with the Arab country's defense minister, a day after discussions with Oman's sultan. Kerry thanked them for their decision to buy the ground-based air defense system from the Massachusetts company. "We're very excited about that and very grateful for your confidence in Raytheon," Kerry said.
