NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A worker killed in an offshore explosion was cleaning a piece of equipment during routine maintenance at its oil-and-gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico, the company that runs the platform said Friday. Fieldwood said the worker who was killed Thursday was cleaning a piece of equipment that separates oil from water liquids when an "isolated pressure event" occurred. The company said the victim and the other worker with visible injuries were employed by Turnkey Cleaning Services, a Louisiana company specializing in cleaning offshore facilities.

White House economists: Obama's immigration steps would expand labor force, boost wages

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's moves on immigration would expand the labor force and increase worker productivity, according to a White House report Friday that estimates average wages would rise over a 10-year period. Obama's Council of Economic Advisers forecasts that as a result of his administrative actions, the gross domestic product would grow by $90 billion, or 0.4 percent, over 10 years, and wages would rise by 0.3 percent by 2024.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans filed a federal lawsuit Friday accusing the Obama administration of exceeding its constitutional powers in carrying out President Barack Obama's prized health care law, giving legal voice to conservatives who have long protested that he has abused his office's authority.

CHICAGO (AP) — Grain futures were mixed Friday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for Mar delivery was up 1 cent to $5.535 a bushel; Mar corn was 1 cent lower at 3.8525 a bushel; Mar oats fell 2.25 cents to $3.26 a bushel; while Jan soybeans gained 18.50 cents to $10.39 a bushel. Beef was higher and pork was lower on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
