TOKYO (AP) — Japan's central bank surprised the financial world and pleased investors Friday by intensifying its purchases of government bonds and other assets to try to revive a chronically anemic economy. By injecting more money into the economy, the government hopes to raise expectations of higher inflation and thereby encourage people to spend and fuel growth.

Budweiser owner AB InBev: profits up 5.5 percent in third quarter despite weak volumes

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Anheuser-Busch InBev SA, the world's largest beer maker, has reported a 5.5-percent increase in earnings for the third quarter, as higher selling prices more than made up for volume declines in Europe and Asia. Though the Leuven, Belgium-based company suffered a 9.5 percent volume decline in Europe, it won a full percentage point of market share in Brazil, where it now controls 60 percent of the beer market. It also increased market share in China, by 1.5 percentage points to 16.5 percent.

Downtown Phoenix hotel reopens after closure caused by fire in electrical room

PHOENIX (AP) — A major hotel in downtown Phoenix has reopened after being closed since last weekend for repairs after a fire in an electrical room. Spokeswoman Shawna Wolfe says workers labored through the night to finish the repairs in time for Friday's reopening. The Sheraton is located in downtown next to the city convention center. It has about 1,000 rooms and 80,000 square feet of meeting space.
