State lawmakers on Tuesday approved legislation that would invest millions of dollars in public and private money in Wisconsin startups despite criticism that the investment targets only limited industries. A slightly amended version of the measure passed the Senate on a 29-3 vote before the Assembly approved it. It now heads to Gov. Scott Walker's desk for his signature.
Amtrak: Subsidy cuts would jeopardize service

Amtrak's president says long-distance trains and some short-haul routes would be jeopardized and service in the busy Northeast corridor might have to be slowed if federal subsidy cuts proposed by a House subcommittee are realized. Amtrak's Joseph Boardman says the House has decided the nation should be connected by train service but doesn't want to pay for the money-losing routes to needed to achieve that.
Cape Wind gets $200M investment from Danish fund

The Cape Wind offshore wind project has secured a $200 million investment from a Danish pension fund in what the wind farm's president said Tuesday is a milestone for the long-delayed project. The $2.6 billion Cape Wind project aims to be the United States' first offshore wind farm. But the project, proposed in 2001, has been beset by lengthy review and entrenched opposition and has been seeking investors.
Jamaica eyes expatriates as source of investment

In a bid to kick start Jamaica's chronically stagnant economy, the Caribbean country is wooing its citizens living abroad to invest in the island of their birth. "This can lead to a roadmap for Jamaica's future. The people who have come here to this conference have substantial knowledge, connections and interests that can help take the country's development into many, many directions," said Lloyd Grey, a retired engineer from Reading, England, who was raised on Jamaica but moved to Britain decades ago.
