Le Gaga Holdings receives going-private offer

Chinese greenhouse vegetable producer Le Gaga Holdings Ltd. has received an offer to take the company private from a group that includes its chairman and CEO. At the offer price, the total company would be valued at approximately $184.1 million. Shares jumped 41 cents, or 12.3 percent, to $3.75 in premarket trading on Wednesday.
Man pleads guilty in Picasso vandalism case

A man accused of vandalizing a 1929 Pablo Picasso painting in a Houston museum _ an act that was caught on cellphone video _ agreed Tuesday to a two-year prison term as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. Emily Detoto, Landeros' attorney, said that after negotiating with prosecutors during a court hearing, her client agreed to plead guilty to the graffiti charge in exchange for a minimal prison sentence. The other charge was dropped. Landeros had faced up to 10 years in prison.
Zale posts $51.1M in 3Q net income

Zale surprised Wall Street with a quick return to a profitable third quarter and shares spiked 15 percent before the opening bell Wednesday. CEO Theo Killion said business accelerated in March and April, following a slow February. The company reported net income of $5.1 million, or 13 cents per share, compared with a loss of $4.5 million, or 14 cents per share, in the same quarter the year before.
House GOP panel moves on deep budget cuts

Republicans controlling the House pressed ahead Tuesday with slashing cuts to domestic programs far deeper than the cuts departments like Education, Interior and State are facing under an already painful round of automatic austerity. At issue are deep agency budget cuts required under automatic across-the-board reductions that are the result of Washington being unable to agree of alternative ways to curb the deficit. This year, the cuts are being applied to domestic agencies and the Pentagon both; Tuesday's plan is for the 2014 budget year beginning Oct. 1 and restores cuts to the military while making cuts to domestic programs favored by Democrats even deeper.
