Jason Industries posts loss of $1.6 million in second quarter

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jason Industries Inc. on Friday reported a loss of $1.6 million in its second quarter. The Milwaukee-based company said it had a loss of 7 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 12 cents per share. The manufacturing company posted revenue of $187.6 million in the period.

Judge gives lender 60 days to exercise purchase option for former presidential yacht Sequoia

(AP) — Frustrated with years of legal wrangling, a Delaware judge has given a lender 60 days to decide whether to buy the former presidential yacht Sequoia, which lies rotting in a Virginia shipyard. Designated a National Historic Landmark, the vessel has been drying out since December in a Deltaville, Virginia, shipyard amid a legal fight about what it's worth and who should pay for repairs.

(AP) — Fifteen years after Nevadans voted to legalize it, medical marijuana was sold legally in the state for the first time Friday at a dispensary in a strip mall about 5 miles east of downtown Reno. "It smells good in there," said Dana Metz, 64, a retired General Motors worker who said he suffers from back pain, insomnia and anxiety. He was the first in line two hours before the doors opened just after 10 a.m.

Astronomers from around world head to Hawaii for conference amid ongoing telescope tensions

HONOLULU (AP) — More than 2,500 astronomers from around the world are descending on Hawaii for a conference at a time when telescope construction is a sensitive issue in the state. Some demonstrators on Maui and the Big Island were arrested Friday as scientists from more than 75 countries headed to Hawaii for the meetings.
