Obama's immigration move leaves out tech priorities, gets cold shoulder from business leaders

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's executive actions on immigration left out some of the business community's top priorities, disappointing business leaders who might have stepped up to defend his policies in the face of Republican attacks. And the administration only partially answered pleas to increase the length of time foreign students can stay in the U.S. before or after graduating to work in their fields. The administration announced plans to expand the program at some point in the future, but it offered no details on timing or scope.

US consumer spending edges up in October ahead of holiday shopping season

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. consumers spent modestly more in October, but the small uptick suggests that they're still wary of buying too much ahead of the crucial holiday shopping season. The U.S. economy has recorded solid growth over the last six months, yet consumers have restrained their spending amid ongoing worries about stagnant wages. But with a steadily improving job market and falling gas prices, economists say American households are ready to shed their cautiousness.

South Asian leaders don't sign expected agreements; chances of India-Pakistan talks decline

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — South Asian leaders, including from rivals India and Pakistan, discussed trade and energy cooperation and regional peace on Wednesday, but did not reach a consensus on expected transportation and energy agreements. Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said Modi had met individually with all of the other leaders, but not with Sharif.

Saudi Oil Minister Naimi suggests OPEC does not need to cut output in effort to drive up price

VIENNA (AP) — Top OPEC producer Saudi Arabia suggested Wednesday there is no need for the cartel to cut its output ceiling despite a plunge in prices that has poorer members of the organization hurting. The global price of oil has fallen 32 percent since late June to $78 a barrel, from $115, amid booming shale production in the United States. That, and continued weakness in some major world economies, has led to supply outpacing demand.
