(AP) — A lawsuit brought by public sector unions and retirees over Rhode Island's 2011 pension overhaul can now move forward, a judge ruled Wednesday, days after both sides said a lengthy mediation had failed. Public-sector unions and retirees had sued over the law, which was designed to save Rhode Island $4 billion over the next 20 years by reining in pension costs. The law has been used as a model for other states.

California game commission delays decision on listing gray wolf as endangered species

2 hours, 39 minutes ago

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — A state board says it needs more time to hear from the public before deciding whether to list gray wolves as an endangered species in California. State Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Chuck Bonham says he doesn't support the listing because there haven't been wolves in California for decades and there's no scientific basis to consider them endangered. He supports other conservation efforts.
