BERLIN (AP) — The German government proposed measures Wednesday to tighten migration regulations for citizens from elsewhere in the European Union amid accusations of welfare abuse by poor immigrants from Bulgaria and Romania. "Freedom of movement is an essential part of the European integration, which we fully stand behind," de Maiziere told reporters in Berlin. "However, that does not mean we should close our eyes to the problems that come with it."

Amid Ebola fears, French government asks Air France to stop Freetown flights

PARIS (AP) — France's government is asking Air France to suspend flights to the largest city in Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in the region that has killed more than 1,400 people. Air France had no immediate comment on the request. Most regional and major airlines have suspended services to the three most affected countries, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The U.N. has warned that the lack of flights is making it increasingly difficult to bring in supplies. Even U.N. flights to bring humanitarian workers to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone have faced restrictions.

Moldova inaugurates new gas pipeline, will get gas from Romania to lessen dependence on Russia

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — A new pipeline has been opened that will pump gas from Romania to Moldova in an attempt to reduce the former Soviet republic's dependence on Russian energy. The pipeline, however, won't be enough for full independence. Moldova is totally reliant on Russian gas coming through Ukraine and has had cutoffs in the past. The 43-kilometer (28-mile) pipeline will provide only five percent of its gas needs.
