JACKSON HOLE, Wyoming (AP) — Shadowing central bankers and economists at the annual Federal Reserve conference here, a group of about 10 demonstrators pressed Fed Chair Janet Yellen not to yield to pressure to raise interest rates. One demonstrator approached Yellen to press his point as she prepared to enter the opening reception Thursday night. With security guards hovering nearby, the two shook hands and spoke for about a minute before Yellen entered the closed-door gathering.

Gross operating profit up nearly 35 percent at Atlantic City casinos

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Atlantic City's 11 casinos saw their gross operating profit increase by nearly 35 percent in the second quarter of this year. But no one's throwing any parades just yet. Figures released Friday by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement show the casinos posted a collective gross operating profit of more than $83 million in April, May and June of this year.

Obama offers new birth control fixes to religious nonprofits, some for-profits companies

WASHINGTON (AP) — Seeking to quell a politically charged controversy, the Obama administration announced new measures Friday to allow religious nonprofits and some companies to opt out of paying for birth control for female employees while still ensuring those employees have access to contraception.
