Campbell beats expectations on stronger soup sales

Campbell Soup reported third-quarter results that beat Wall Street expectations and raised its outlook for the year as sales in its struggling soup unit improved. During the period, however, Campbell said sales for its U.S. Soup business rose 14 percent from a year ago. Its Chunky soups and new items such as its Campbell's Go soups that come in pouches helped contribute to the increase.
AP CEO calls records seizure 'unconstitutional'

The Associated Press' president and chief executive says the government's secret seizure of two months of reporters' phone records has already had a chilling effect on newsgathering, a week after the subpoenas were revealed publicly. In his first television interviews since the AP reported the Justice Department seizure, Pruitt said it has made sources less willing to talk to AP journalists and, in the long term, could limit Americans' information from all news outlets.
NY town eyes limit on use of Plum Island

But it now appears any prospective buyer won't be able to do much with Plum Island anyway. The initiative has the support of environmentalists, who say the 843-acre island is a haven for several endangered bird species. But one prominent Hamptons real estate executive says not allowing development of Plum Island could affect the selling price by tens of millions of dollars.
NFP names Douglas Hammond as new CEO

National Financial Partners Corp. said Monday that it named Douglas Hammond, its current president and chief operating officer, as its new chief executive officer. The New York-based wealth management services provider is in the process of selling itself to private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners LLC for about $1.01 billion. That deal, which remains subject to shareholder approval, is expected to close in the third quarter.
