Gold and grain futures higher

Gold is ending higher in Wednesday trading. The August contract is up $7.10 to $1,374 per ounce. Silver and copper are lower with platinum and palladium off by more than 1 percent. Benchmark crude finished 20 cents lower at $98.24 per barrel on the Nymex. Other energy contracts were higher. Wheat, corn and soybeans are up for the day.
Madonna premieres tour film, talks secret project

Madonna said there were days when she was exhausted during her recent "MDNA" world tour, but she decided to press on. "There's no such thing as not in the mood because the show must go on, right?" the singer said at the film's premiere Tuesday night at New York's Paris Theater. "I'm a human being like everybody else, so I would have my nights, my bad nights and I would cry and I would say, `I don't want to do this.'"
Grain futures, livestock prices rise

Grains futures rose Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for July delivery rose 19.5 cents to $7.07 a bushel; July corn rose 9 cents to $6.8225 a bushel; July oats rose 5.5 cents to $4.0325 a bushel; while July soybeans jumped 12.25 cents to $15.23 a bushel. Beef and pork prices rose on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Obama relying on untested oversight board on NSA

The obscure Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board that President Barack Obama said will meet with him to discuss the National Security Agency's secret surveillance program was itself meeting Wednesday behind closed doors. The oversight board's meeting was its first since revelations that the NSA secretly has been collecting phone data about millions of Americans and Internet records that are aimed at foreign users but also sometimes sweep up materials from inside the U.S.
