Eaton Vance fiscal 2Q net income jumps 20 percent

Eaton Vance Corp. said Wednesday its fiscal second-quarter net income jumped 20 percent, as an increase in its assets under management boosted investment and advisory fees. Excluding one-time items, the company said it posted an adjusted profit of 52 cents per share for the recent quarter. Revenue rose 9 percent to $331.7 million from $304.8 million, as investment and advisory fees rose 11 percent to $276.9 million.

Seeking to help the state's youngest students develop nutritious habits, Texas lawmakers on Tuesday approved banning the sale of sugary drinks in public elementary and junior high schools. "If we're ever going to make a difference in the huge budget, we need to start thinking about prevention," said Sen. Carlos Uresti, D- San Antonio, in an interview after the vote. "It's a small step, but I think it gets us there."
Grains futures, livestock prices mixed

Grains futures were mixed Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for July delivery rose 4.5 cents to $6.85 a bushel; July corn rose 7 cents to $6.47 a bushel; July oats were flat at $3.55 a bushel; while July soybeans slipped 2 cents to $14.7625 a bushel. Beef and pork prices were also mixed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
