Covidien to spin off pharmaceuticals unit in June

Health care products company Covidien PLC said Friday that it plans to spin off its pharmaceutical business as Mallincrkodt PLC in June. The company's board has approved the separation of business and said Friday that it will declare a dividend to complete the transfer to Mallincrkodt. For every eight ordinary shares they hold, Covidien shareholders will receive one ordinary share of Mallinckrodt. Shareholders will receive cash in lieu of fractional shares.
Aeropostale shares fall on 1Q loss, weak forecast

Shares of Aeropostale Inc. fell on Friday, a day after the teen apparel retailer reported a first-quarter loss and offered second-quarter guidance that disappointed investors. THE BIG PICTURE: Aeropostale has been struggling for some time with tough competition and fickle young shoppers. The company had clothing left over that didn't sell in the holiday shopping season, and it's been contending with sluggish economic conditions. In March CEO Thomas Johnson said that the retailer was making progress by updating merchandise and developing a new model for its stores. The key test will be the upcoming back-to-school selling season, a crucial time for teen retailers.
Indy 500 fans will find track tighter this year

But the biggest impact on fans could be closer monitoring of the coolers they bring in. Coolers packed with beer are a time-honored tradition at the speedway. The track has long had limits on the size of coolers fans could bring in, but those were widely ignored as security officials herding tens of thousands of fans through the gates focused more on banning glass bottles.
