International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde faced hours of questioning at a special Paris court Thursday over her role in the 400 million euro ($520 million) pay-off to a controversial businessman when she was France's finance minister. The proceedings were expected to continue Friday at the special Paris court that handles cases involving government ministers. Smiling and waving to reporters after more than 12 hours at the court on Thursday, Lagarde said only, "A demain" ("see you tomorrow") to a person behind her before climbing into a car. She has denied wrongdoing.
Texas lawmakers require audit of development fund

State lawmakers have given final approval to a bill requiring an audit of Gov. Rick Perry's deal-closing Texas Enterprise Fund. The bill by Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis of Fort Worth requires the state auditor to examine the grant process and whether recipients have complied their contracts. The audit must be completed no later than January 2015.
Michigan joblessness falls 0.6 points in April

Michigan says that the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate is down 0.6 percentage points statewide and in most major labor markets. The populous Detroit-area job market accounts for about half the state's workforce, and its unemployment rate fell a full percentage point to 8.9 percent from March to April.
