1 hour, 5 minutes ago

An unmanned jet built for U.S. Navy high-altitude maritime surveillance missions has made its first flight. Northrop Grumman Corp. says the MQ-4C Triton took off from Palmdale, Calif., Wednesday and completed a 90-minute flight. Summary Box: Stocks close lower on Fed fears

1 hour, 5 minutes ago

MIXED MESSAGES: Stocks surged in the early going after Fed chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress the central bank was unlikely to pull back from its stimulus programs soon. Then minutes from a Fed meeting were released that suggested other policymakers think a pullback is possible as early as next month, and stocks dropped.

New Paraguay leaders promise more free milk

1 hour, 7 minutes ago

Paraguay exports enough soy, wheat and corn to feed 80 million people, more than 10 times its population, and its rivers provide abundant fresh water. But 14 percent of its children suffer chronic malnutrition, and many others lack of clean drinking water. Arbo said a free milk program that now reaches 25,000 poor children will be extended to 70,000 infants.

Cruise industry announces passenger bill of rights

1 hour, 11 minutes ago

The cruise industry is announcing the adoption of a passenger bill of rights. The announcement was made in the aftermath of the Carnival Triumph debacle. The ship drifted for several days earlier this year without power as passengers endured filthy conditions. The bill guarantees among other things passengers' rights to "an emergency power source in the case of a main generator failure" on a ship, and "the right to transportation" to the ship's last scheduled port or the passenger's home city if a cruise is terminated early due to mechanical failures.
