TiVo climbs as subscriber growth bolsters 1Q

TiVo's stock neared a 52-week high on Tuesday after the digital video recording company's fiscal first-quarter results topped Wall Street's expectations on strong subscriber growth. THE BACKGROUND: TiVo has struggled to make money, posting annual losses in nearly all of the past 10 years. It has gotten a boost in the past couple years from patent settlements, however, and litigation continues. TiVo starts a trial versus Motorola, now owned by Google Inc., next month.
