General Motors Co. says the Spark EV subcompact will be among the lowest-priced electric cars in the U.S. With a $7,500 federal tax credit, the car's price falls to $19,995. The 36-month lease includes 12,000 miles per year. The Spark EV can go about 82 miles on a single charge and gets the gasoline equivalent of 119 miles per gallon.

Building materials blamed in Bangladesh disaster

A government investigation says poor quality construction materials and building code violations contributed to the collapse of building housing garment factories last month in Bangladesh. Ahmed says the building owner used "extremely poor quality of iron rods and cement." The report says the owner had permission for a six-story structure and added two floors illegally. Past information said the owner had permission for a five-story structure and added three.

Ford to end auto production in Australia in 2016

Ford Motor Co. said Thursday it will close its two Australian auto plants, ending production in the country in 2016, amid soaring manufacturing costs and plummeting sales. "We understand the very real impact that this will have on our team," Ford Australia President Bob Graziano told reporters at the company's Melbourne plant. "We came to this conclusion only after thoroughly reviewing our business and exhausting all other alternatives."
