Complaint accuses Exxon Mobil of anti-gay bias

One after another, major U.S. corporations have updated anti-discrimination policies to protect gay, lesbian and transgender workers, drawing plaudits from gay-rights groups. There's one prominent exception: Exxon Mobil Corp. On Wednesday, in the latest attempt to pressure the company into change, a gay-rights group called Freedom to Work teamed with a high-powered Washington law firm to file what they described as a groundbreaking discrimination complaint against Exxon in Illinois.

Via Christi Health cutting jobs throughout Kansas

Wichita-based Via Christi Health says tough finances are forcing it to eliminate 350 to 400 jobs at its facilities throughout Kansas. The reductions are expected to take place by the end of June. Via Christi says that senior leaders will take salary reductions of about 4 percent. President and CEO Jeff Korsmo said the system is not operating at a loss, but revenue is about $18 million below budget 10 months into its current fiscal year.

Intuit shares rise on earnings report

Shares of Intuit advanced Wednesday after the maker of TurboTax tax-filing software reported higher net income for its third quarter, beating Wall Street expectations. For the quarter, earnings rose to $822 million, or $2.71 per share, from $734 million, or $2.42 per share, a year ago. Excluding one-time items such as writing down the value of a health business unit, earnings came to $2.97 per share, topping Wall Street's forecast of $2.93 per share.
