United Airlines put its 787 back in the air on Monday, with both the airline and Boeing hoping to put the plane's four-month grounding behind them. The flight from Houston to Chicago was just the kind of 787 flight that airlines are hoping for: uneventful. Smoldering batteries on two 787s owned by other airlines prompted authorities to ground the planes in January. The failure of Boeing's newest, flashiest and most important plane embarrassed the company and its customers.
Warm, dry weather helps ND farmers make progress

Warm, dry weather across North Dakota helped farmers make significant progress on their fieldwork before rainfall late in the week halted activities. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop report says rainfall amounts totaled 1 to 6 inches. Spring wheat seeding was rated 50 percent complete. This is well behind last year at 98 percent and the average and the 67 percent average.
Coal operator plans to open 7 mines in Pike County

A longtime coal operator plans to open seven mines in the heart of the eastern Kentucky coalfields in a venture expected to create more than 250 jobs in a hard-pressed region where several thousand mining jobs have disappeared in recent years. "We plan on mining a million tons a year," Smith said recently.
Shares drop of full-body scanner maker OSI Systems

Shares of OSI Systems Inc. tumbled Monday after the company said the government had begun proceedings related to its full-body scanners used in airports that had raised privacy concerns. The move could hurt OSI's U.S. government business. THE BIG PICTURE: The scanners are designed to spot metallic objects like guns and non-metallic items such as plastic explosives. But the scanners also showed naked images of passengers' bodies. That had prompted Congress to order that they either produce a more generic image or be removed by June.
