Fitch: Supply will pressure used vehicle prices
1 hour, 59 minutes ago
Continued competition from sales of relatively affordable new vehicles and a growing wholesale market supply will pressure used vehicle prices, Fitch Ratings said Tuesday. Fitch said the trend is a return to more "reasonable values" from higher ones. Prices of used vehicles rose in the years after the Great Recession as drivers held onto the vehicles longer instead of buying new ones and automakers cut back on leasing, reducing the supply of available used cars and trucks. More recently, auto sales and leasing have picked up. That's increased the supply of used cars and helped ease prices. The credit-ratings firm expects that trend to continue as new car sales rise.
Mich. lawmakers OK $1 surcharge on electric bills
2 hours, 1 minute ago
Michigan regulators could add up to a $1 monthly surcharge to utility bills to help poor customers with their heating bills under legislation that is expected to become law. If they opt out, they would be barred from shutting off service to delinquent accounts from Nov. 1 to April 15. Nofs, the bill sponsor and chairman of the Senate Energy and Technology Committee, said a maximum $50 million could be collected from electric customers each year. If lawmakers decide to designate some taxpayer dollars to the fund, the surcharge could be less than $1, he said.
CommVault Systems shares rise following upgrade
2 hours, 5 minutes ago
Shares of CommVault Systems Inc. rose Tuesday after a Pacific Crest Securities analyst upgraded the information management software company's stock. He also raised his targets on EMC Corp. and NetApp Inc., and expects shares of each company to rise at least 20 percent. THE BIG PICTURE: Bracelin said the data storage industry has been in a slump, as spending on storage systems and software slowed down in 2011 and 2012 and spending appears to be decreasing in 2013. He said sales could reach a low point this year, with a recovery starting in 2014. He said CommVault has small shares of the data protection and recovery and storage software markets, and could take bigger positions thanks to its new Simpana 10 data and information management software. The company released Simpana 10 in February.
