Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and pretax expenses, were 12 cents per share. The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 11 cents per share.

CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) _ Leggett & Platt Inc. (LEG) on Wednesday reported third-quarter net income of $48.2 million. The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 50 cents per share. The engineered component manufacturer posted revenue of $997.4 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Analysts expected $1.03 billion, according to Zacks.
