PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — Electric car maker Tesla's second-quarter deliveries surged 52 percent to set a company record exceeding 11,000 vehicles. Tesla makes only one car, the Model S sedan, but CEO Elon Musk said last month he expects to begin deliveries of an SUV, the Model X, in three or four months. Tesla began 2015 with 20,000 reservations for the Model X. The company has said it plans to deliver 55,000 Model S sedans and Model X SUVs this year.

Plane safely diverts to central Ohio airport after pilot reports passenger made threats

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Officials say a plane headed from St. Louis to Washington, D.C., was diverted to central Ohio after a pilot reported a disruptive passenger made threatening statements. Whitaker says no problems were found, so most people were allowed to resume their travels. He says two people interviewed by the FBI were released, and no one was immediately charged.

Pricey NYC restaurant Per Se settles complaint that it added banquet charge, stiffed waiters

NEW YORK (AP) — One of New York City's most expensive restaurants agreed to settle a complaint that it added a 20 percent charge for banquets and did not pass the money on to its waiters, officials said Thursday. Per Se said the violation was an unintentional oversight. The settlement covers the period from January 2011 through September 2012. Schneiderman said Per Se added a 20 percent service charge for private banquets that customers thought would be used to tip the waiters.

Intel President Renee James to leave chipmaker early next year, seeking CEO role elsewhere

NEW YORK (AP) — Intel said Thursday that President Renee James, who has worked at the chipmaker for 28 years, plans to leave the company early next year to seek a CEO role elsewhere. The Santa Clara, California-company also announced several other personnel and organizational changes. Arvind Sodhani, president of Intel's venture capital unit, will retire in January after 35 years at the company. Vice Presidents Hermann Eula and Michael Bell will also leave the company, Intel said.
